Echoes of Africa: An Experience with Iconic and Disappearing African Instruments with Nyttu Chongo
July 12 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm$45
Nyttu Chongo is offering a 4-week workshop series of “xingombela jam sessions” on African improvisation as part of his community programming as a MacPhail Global Music Initiative Artist in Residence. This series of musical tutorials will cover creative musicianship on the Mbira Dzava Dzimu, Mbira Nyunga Nyunga, Xitende, and Timbila of Mozambique. These Tuesday evening “xingombela jam sessions” hosted at the North Suburban Center for the Arts are open to anyone with interest in expanding their creative practice and musical experimentation with either their own instruments or learning to use traditional African instruments provided. Participants are encouraged to come as they are with an open mind to let go of their musical inhibitions, learn, and improvise from the examples shared.
$45 for the four-week series: Tuesdays, 6-7PM on June 14, 21, 28, and July 12
